Puerto Galera offers some of the best Scuba Diving in the Philippines
On the northern shore of Mindoro Island, which is divided from Luzon by the Verde Island Passage, is Puerto Galera. These waters experience strong currents of up to 6 knots as a result of the South China Sea’s current flushing them. As a result, the region is well recognized for its amazing scuba diving and a variety of marine life. Many dive sites in Puerto Galera offer a wide range of alternatives, whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver. An underwater photographer’s paradise, there are shipwrecks, thrilling drift dives, and wonderful muck diving places to explore.
The Verde Island Passage has been dubbed the “center of the center” of marine biodiversity worldwide by experts. Life enhancing nutrients from the Pacific mix with waters of the South China Sea. Underwater rock canyons that are home to about 60% of the known species of shorefish and beautiful reef structures with more than 300 different types of coral are hidden beneath the surface. The passage is located at the pinnacle of the “Coral Triangle,” which covers the Sulawesi and the Sulu Seas in the southern Philippines and adjacent Indonesia. The World Conservation Union defines it as the marine counterpart of the Amazon River basin. One of the most incredible dives is the Verde Island drop-off, which is approximately 20 minutes away from the El Galleon/Asia Divers resort. We are situated on the banks of the Verde Island passage.
The incredible macrolife is one of the main reasons why so many divers travel to Puerto Galera. The enormous variety of unique nudibranches that divers can encounter at a single dive site delights underwater photographers! Divers can see unusual creatures such pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, frog fish, sea moths, dragonets, stick pipefish, wonderpuss, mimic octopus, and flamboyant cuttlefish. Many gigantic basket sponges covered in hundreds of different colored crinoid, hard, and soft corals, as well as gorgonian sea fans, are present in abundance at every dive site. In addition, cuttlefish, crabs, seahorses, mantis shrimp, turtles, and octopuses frequently appear. Thresher sharks are have become a very welcomed addition. There are a few shipwrecks at Puerto Galera as well, which are ideal habitats for a variety of corals, fish, and other marine life. The dive sites in Puerto Galera provide amazing scuba diving opportunities for divers of all skill levels, including “Bubble Makers” (kids’ scuba diving), recreational divers, underwater photographers, and even technical divers.
