Sue's Groyne Manta Club Dive
Sunday 18 October 2026
Conditions weren’t exactly favourable, with SWS winds at 18 knots and a 2-metre swell, leaving us with limited options for dive sites. Sue’s Groyne was our best bet, with the north wall offering some much-needed protection from the winds.
Although the sea looked relatively calm and flat, unfortunately, the visibility wasn’t the best. But that’s okay ! These divers showed a real appreciation for the opportunity to still get beneath the surface and enjoy what the underwater world had to offer.
As many of us know, Sue’s Groyne makes for a fantastic night dive. The colourful corals and soft sponges come alive after dark, and if you have a UV light, you’ll be treated to the incredible sight of the corals fluorescing beneath the beam.
For this reason, I always recommend exploring a new dive site during the day before attempting it at night. Familiarising yourself with the layout, features and surroundings in daylight can make a huge difference to your confidence and comfort when darkness falls.
Sometimes, conditions don’t give us the perfect dive, but there’s always something to appreciate beneath the surface!
