Exploring underwater at Jervoise Bay harbour wall

Manta Club divers at Jervoise Bay

Keeping an eye on the weather since early morning, the downpour hammering on the roof at work around 2pm had me thinking this would be anyone’s guess regarding viz at tonight’s proposed site and I quickly thought-up a river site in reserve. Thankfully my hedging bets on the inside of the Jervoise Bay harbour being secluded enough from the weather having done a reckie a few weeks earlier during a similar crap spell, all paid off.

Blue swimming crabs everywhere, but not allowed to take!

Blue swimmer crabs

Despite less than 5m viz no one was complaining and the exBHP Jetty turned up trumps again this Wednesday. Hiding under a pipe at the start was a shy Giant Australian Cuttlefish who just wouldn’t come out and show us its full size but was probably half grown. Diving the Cenotes of Mexico

Diving in the Cenotes of Mexico

This dive site is about 400m inland from the main highway about 25km from Playa del Carmen and to get there you travel down a dirt road which winds around a bit through the bush terrain and then opens out to a clearing where there is a small shop (of course) and a few facilities built by the owners of the land figuring that the better facilities available to divers, the more will come and the more money they will make from the divers. Good plan really because this place is quite busy. The great thing about this location though is the sheer size of it and the fact that there are a few different Cenotes in this area which all either link up or run very close to each other offering a lot of variation.

Diving in one of the worlds newest countries

Timor Leste clown fish

As one of the worlds newest countries, Timor Leste makes for an ideal diving location. I was lucky enough to dive there in 2017, and I can’t wait to return.

The island itself is reminiscent of Bali before tourism exploded, with no street hawkers, and an incredibly relaxed attitude. The taxi’s are hilarious, and the food was fantastic!
