Ever wondered what its like to zoom around the ocean floor with an underwater scooter?
One of the biggest but mostly unrecognised benefits of diving with a scooter is the lack of air you use.
It just shows how the effort of diving really makes you work out... I know by now you are all saying “Wow so that’s how Lee keeps in such awesome shape!” (Round is a shape ok?)
This dive site is about 400m inland from the main highway about 25km from Playa del Carmen and to get there you travel down a dirt road which winds around a bit through the bush terrain and then opens out to a clearing where there is a small shop (of course) and a few facilities built by the owners of the land figuring that the better facilities available to divers, the more will come and the more money they will make from the divers. Good plan really because this place is quite busy. The great thing about this location though is the sheer size of it and the fact that there are a few different Cenotes in this area which all either link up or run very close to each other offering a lot of variation.
As one of the worlds newest countries, Timor Leste makes for an ideal diving location. I was lucky enough to dive there in 2017, and I can’t wait to return.
The island itself is reminiscent of Bali before tourism exploded, with no street hawkers, and an incredibly relaxed attitude. The taxi’s are hilarious, and the food was fantastic!

To help match the rising interest in personal shark deterrents from our most at risk ocean users – surfers and divers – an additional 1,000 rebates have now been added to the McGowan Government’s world-first personal shark deterrent subsidy scheme.
The caverns (cenotes) and caves that pepper this area is vast with so many endless underground systems that pass and meet each other in a network of underwater wonders left behind after a meteorite hit the Earth millions of years ago.
Today the remains of that historical moment in time give us an opportunity to see diving in a different light. (or darkness). Our groups were split into more manageable groups and set off for different locations. The first Cenote destinations… Chuk Mool and Eden.
