Why is night diving a fun and unique experience?
This week myself and Alison headed out to the Ammunition Jetty for a night dive together. I just love night diving with my camera and I don't get to do it near often enough. Night scuba diving can be an incredible and unique experience for a number of reasons. Here are just a few:
- Different Creatures: At night, many different marine creatures that are not usually seen during the day come out of their hiding spots to feed and hunt. This can include octopus, decorator crabs, catfish and a variety of fish that are more active at night.
- Different Colours: The colours of the underwater world are completely different at night. Many animals have bioluminescence, which means they emit their own light. The colours of some underwater creatures are completely different under torch and strobe lights, than under sunlight.
- Peace and Quiet: Night diving is typically much quieter than diving during the day, since most boats and other watercraft are not operating at night. This can create a peaceful and tranquil experience that is very different from diving during the day.
- Unique Perspective: Night diving can offer a different perspective on familiar dive sites. The underwater world can look completely different at night, and even sites that you have visited many times during the day can seem like completely new and exciting places to explore.
- Adventure: Night diving can be an adventure in itself. The darkness and limited visibility can create an exhilarating experience that is unlike any other. With the right equipment and training, night diving can be a safe and thrilling way to explore the underwater world.
If you haven't yet experienced night diving, then you're welcome to join us on our upcoming Advanced courses or our free Wednesday club night dives. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for upcoming club dive locations.
