Breaking News! Christmas and Cocos Keeling Marine Parks

Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands Marine Park
We have incredibly exciting news for World Water Day!
Together we have successfully created one of the largest marine sanctuary areas in the world!
Co-designed with the local communities, the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands Marine Parks have just been declared by the Australian Government.
We did it!🌴🦀
With around 739,000 square kilometres of sanctuary protection, that’s:
✅ Bigger than Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT combined.
✅ Twice the size of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
✅ A globally significant contribution to the health of our oceans.
Thank you! We couldn’t have achieved this historic win for our marine life, local island communities and global oceans without your support.
These sanctuaries will provide a critical safe haven for a wealth of Indian Ocean marine life under huge pressure from industrial fishing, climate change and mining.

Bathers Beach club night dive

Bathers Beach club night dive

Wednesday 10 March 2022

Thank you to everyone who turned up for the Manta Club dive at Bathers Beach on Wednesday. 13 eager divers kitted up and made their way to the water amid a stunning sunset. This little known divesite turned out to be a complete delight! I was a bit apprehensive as the water was a bit choppy at the surface. We did a surface swim and then dropped down along the groyne. Once we descended, we were delighted to have 20m+ vis and completely calm conditions. Much to our delight, we found ourselves in an octopus garden. Big ones, little ones, there were dozens everywhere. Along with schools of bream, several baby cuttlefish, crays, squid and heaps of other critters. This was a fantastic dive and we will return for sure. See you all again soon.
